JOPLIN, MO.--- More than 40 visitors and house guests enjoyed a buffet style Christmas meal at the Lafayette House today. Volunteers served turkey, green beans, mashed potatoes and desert to guests. The Lafayette House provides a safe environment for women and children who are affected by domestic abuse or addiction.
For some people at today's meal, this is their first time away from home for the holidays. Some guests say today's Christmas luncheon was a great pick-me-up during a difficult time.

"This is my first Christmas away from my kids, but as long as I'm around the people here, it takes my mind off of it," states Rosie Sanders, Lafayette House Resident.
Before lunch, Santa also visited with kids staying at the house and hand delivered small gifts.
