RIVERTON, KS.--- The blaze started around 10:15 this morning. Fire officials say by the time they arrived the attic was completely engulfed in flames. Two people were home at the time and escaped without serious injuries.
Officials believe the fire started in the fireplace and spread to the attic. The Galena fire chief says it took 8 fire trucks and 3 hours to put the fire out.

"Weather was not a good factor today for us. It was not a friend. There was so much wind that, of course, it fanned the flames inside the attic and the roof. The house is a total loss," said Bill Hall, Galena Fire Chief. "Fires are terrible, but they're even worse on Christmas Day."
The American Red Cross is providing family members with warm clothing, food, and shelter for the evening.
