PARSONS, KS.--- Parsons firefighters were called to an apartment on North Main Street around 4 Monday evening. While on scene, they quickly found and rescued Robert Niebaum Jr., 47. Niebaum was transported to Labette Health where he later died from injuries sustained in the fire.
No one else was hurt in that fire and the structure has minimal damages. Several hours later, firefighters were called to a home on North Central Street on Christmas day.
When they arrived, the duplex was completely engulfed in flames. The building's only occupant was not home at the time of the blaze, but the structure is considered a total loss.

"Neither one of them are related, so it's not anything that any one person did or any string of things that happened but we typically don't average a fire a month and to have two of them on back to back days, especially around the holidays is pretty tragic," states Larry Steeby, Parsons Fire Chief.
Firefighters say the the apartment fire originated near the furnace. The cause of the duplex fire is still under investigation.
