MISSOURI--- The legislation to let teachers carry concealed guns at schools was filed last week by state representative Mike Kelley following the Connecticut school shooting. It would allow teachers to have firearms in their classroom for protection.
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon sent a letter to all Missouri's public school superintendents on Monday. He says keeping schools safe is his top priority but believes having loaded weapons in classrooms is the wrong approach to the issue.
The governor says he believes the legislation would put children at risk. The bill is prefiled in the House and currently has about 24 sponsors.
