LAMAR, MO.--- The City of Lamar started using two new generators last week. The total cost of purchasing and putting in the machines cost more than $2 million from the city's reserve funds.

Lamar now has a total of 4 generators that convert landfill gas into methane to use as electric fuel. The city administrator says the added machines enabled the city to not have to raise electric rates.

"We're generating about a half of our requirements for the whole town in the winter. In the summer it is more like a third," states Lynn Calton, Lamar City Administrator.

The city administrator expects the city will see cost savings on the amount of electric they have to buy next month.
