NEOSHO, MO.--- Basketball players hit the courts today, for the 58th annual Neosho Holiday Classic Tournament. 12 girls teams and 14 boys teams traveled from as far away as Memphis, Tennessee to participate. Organizers calculated the event brought in more than $400,000 to the Neosho community last year.
The tournament is a joint effort between the school district and Branco Enterprises. City council members also contributed $10,000 of the Neosho tourism tax income to fund the event.
"My dad played in the tournament back in the 60's. You've got kids and grand kids who have participated in this event from when it started back in the 50's and it is really a true icon for what the holidays bring the city," states Richard Davidson, Neosho Mayor.
The tournament will last through this Saturday, with the popular slam dunk contest on Friday night.
