JOPLIN, MO.--- The Missouri Southern fight song is a well recognized tune, but the lyrics are a different story. That's because there are none. University band leaders realized there are no actual words to the school's fight song, ever since it was composed in 1969.
Now, they're holding a contest to add words to the song. Members of the community are invited to go to the schools website to submit their entry. Band director Brian Fronzaglia says the entries will be judged on their meaning, catchiness, and historical relevance to the university.
"We think it's important to show our school spirit. We have a lot of great athletic teams on campus and to be able to vocalize our spirit is really important," states Brian Fronzaglia, MSSU Director of Athletic Bands.
