The legislature is proposing doing away with the districts and instead putting the Department of Natural Resources in charge. The city has benefited from grants from the region "M" district to enhance their recycling center. The city administrator says if they do away with the districts, their chances of getting money could decrease.
"It serves the citizens better to keep it local and maintain that expertise that the local people have in dealing with this on a day-to-day basis," says Tom Short, City Administrator.
The city administrator says they'll send copies of the resolution to local legislators and the Missouri Municipal League to let them know the city is against the bill.
