BAXTER SPRINGS, KS.--- The "Cafe on the Route" owners announced on their Facebook page that they have closed. The restaurant opened 14 years ago and was even spotlighted on the Food Network Show "Diners, Drive Inn's and Dives" back in 2007. Regulars of the restaurant say it will be greatly missed.

"Very popular with the people traveling Route 66. It's in all the magazines. They were on the Food Channel. They were very well known throughout the United States and overseas. They brought in a lot of people from overseas," says Charlene Hunley, Fan of Cafe on the Route.

The owners also owned the L.L. Sawyer's restaurant inside the Gryphon Building in Joplin which closed last year.
