JOPLIN, MO.--- The Meals On Wheels Program relies on two things, volunteers and donations. During this time of year, the program typically sees a decline in volunteers due to other commitments. Funding the program is also difficult since the cost of groceries and fuel are on the rise, and yet federal and state funding for the program has not increased since 2009.

Right now, the program has a total of about 50 volunteers and in order to keep the program running smoothly, about twice that many are really needed. You can volunteer one day a week or up to 5.

"They can either call their senior center in their town, or they can call here at central office, our number is 481-7562. We can get you set up with one of the centers that's closest to your home," says Stephanie Denham, Meals on Wheels.

The Meals On Wheels Program serves Jasper, Barton, Newton, and McDonald counties.
