SENECA, MO.--- The Newton County Library Board gave the "Committee to Save the Seneca Library" permission to ear mark donations collected, specifically for the Seneca branch. Board members voted last year to close the Seneca facility, due to a lack of financial resources.

After opposition from the community, board members gave residents until this June to come up with a way to fund the library. Committee members say being able to collect donations specifically for the Seneca branch will help their cause greatly.

"If you go and present to someone to raise money and you say, 'well we don't know for sure if this is going to go to the Seneca branch', you're not going to raise money. People are to say, 'Hey what is this for?", says Seneca Library Committee Member Josh Dodson.

The Seneca Library is estimated to cost $75,000 a year to operate. Committee members must come up with enough money by June to run the facility for at least three years.
