FORT SCOTT, KS.--- A black and white photo showcases a Fort Scott police officer who served decades ago.
"He passed away a couple of years ago and his family brought this photo of him in," says Travis Shelton, Chief, Fort Scott Police Department.
Chief Travis Shelton and his officers want to collect more historic photos of their department.
"Just to preserve our department's history. I think over the years some things have been lost," says Chief Shelton.
Their goal is to gather as many photos as they can to help tell the department's story through images.
"Anybody that has old photographs of members of our department or past members of our department, we'd love to see them," says Chief Shelton.
They are hoping to possibly get a copy to hang on their wall as well.
"Scan into our computer system and upload them to our Facebook," explains Chief Shelton.
Many pictures already hang in one of the Fort Scott PD's hallways.
"They're not every year, but we have some 80's pictures into the 70's and 60's," says Chief Shelton.
Each picture helps honor past employees.
"You know, a lot of these men, they had careers here for 20 to 30 years," says Chief Shelton.
They're not just focusing on officers, they also want images of jailers, dispatchers, or other police department workers. They can be picture of individuals or group shots.
"We know these folks were proud to be police men and it's a neat thing to do," says Chief Shelton.
