JOPLIN, MO.--- More than 150 farmers showed up for the 2 day Winter Vegetable Production Conference in Joplin. Speakers flew in from Michigan, New York, and several other northern states to share tips on how they grow fresh produce in cool temperatures.

The Webb City Farmers Market in conjunction with the local Missouri Extension hosted the event in hopes that it will eventually help to meet the growing demand for fresh produce in southwest Missouri.

"One thing that motivated us as a market is that we have a year round market and our customers want fresh local produce during the winter, so it was important for us to train our farmers on how to do that," states Eileen Nichols, Webb City Farmers Market.

This workshop was funded with a portion of the money the Webb City Farmers Market received from a "U.S.D.A Specialty Crops Program Grant."
