MIAMI, OK.--- Last month, nearly 5,000 Oklahoma residents applied for a gun license. That's nearly 1,000 more applications than when the Self Defense Act became a law in Oklahoma back in 1996.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is also seeing an increase in the number of people trying to renew their license.

In order to accommodate the influx, the O.S.B.I. has hired more full and part-time employees and pulled workers from other departments. O.S.B.I. officials won't say what's caused the increase.
