Updated: January 7, 2009
An upcoming special election may be filled with several issues. Residents in Ottawa County will go to the polls January 8th. Voters will select a new county commissioner and decide the fate of issues in Quapaw and Picher. A proposal under consideration would ask voters to approve a $3 million dollar property tax to pay for the operation of a county ambulance district and residents in Picher may have to select a new city council member. Mayor Sam Freeman is expected to resign to run for the vacant county commission seat. The filing period to run for county commission will be November 26th through the 28th.
