JOPLIN, MO.--- Joplin Police will stage a DWI checkpoint this weekend. The enforcement will check for drunk drivers as well as any type of impaired driving.

Officers point out, that played a significant role in the number of traffic related deaths in Missouri last year. About 30% of the total were connected to impaired driving.

"In 2011, we had 218 traffic fatalities, that was 30% of the total that was attributed to impaired driving. You know, along with that, we had over 800 of those that were seriously injured in those accidents," said Sgt. Rusty Rives, Joplin Police Department.

Officers have not said when or where the checkpoint will take place, only that it's scheduled between the 15th and 17th.
