Carthage Approved Digital Radio System

CARTHAGE, MO.--- Carthage City Council members approved a more than $247,000 bid to finish the 2nd phase of a project to install a digital radio system.

A radio is already installed in every city vehicle, and soon antennas will be installed on the city's 2 water towers. The police chief says once the project is complete, it will provide better coverage for both the police and fire stations.

"Right now, there are places in town where the officers have their portable radios and they don't work, and it's very statickey or you can't hear it at all," said Greg Dagnan, Carthage Police Chief.

The mayor can still negotiate a lower price before signing a contract with wireless technologies. The city will also run radio tests before approving the contract.
