JOPLIN, MO.--- The Joplin School District held their pre bid meeting for the new high school today. It was a chance for contractors to take a first look at the blue prints, and share their concerns or ask questions before the bids are submitted.

It's the first step towards to the school's recovery and rebuilding process. Mike Johnson is the district's director of construction and he tells us he's excited about the new school. He says it's built around 21st century learning components, and it's designed to prepare students for college.

"Purposely designed for flexibility over the future, because what our needs are today, may not be what our needs are 20 years from now. So, we purposely designed it so that it's flexible and can be modified over the years ahead," said Mike Johnson, Director of Construction.

Johnson adds their goal is to start classes in the new building next August.
