JOPLIN -- Volunteers with the Joplin chapter of the Future Farmers of America and students from Franklin Tech hosted a tree care workshop Saturday. Experts provided the ins and outs of where to plant a tree, what types of trees to buy and talked about tree planting projects in Joplin. Organizers say it is important to replace the thousands of trees lost during the May 22, 2011 tornado.
"As everyone knows, we lost thousands of trees in the tornado, and we're hoping we can get more of these trees replaced," says Joplin FFA advisor Jason Cutler.
The next tree planting workshop will take place on Arbor Day, which falls on the last Friday in April.
