JOPLIN -- Volunteers spent part of Sunday afternoon collecting insects and performing chemical tests in Shoal and Silver Creeks near Joplin. The Stream Team monitors the water quality four times a year. This is the fifth year volunteers have done the testing and have never found any problems. Nature experts say creek monitoring is the best phase in identifying a possible water issue.

"We just expect to turn on the water faucet and have good clean drinkable water, but there is really a lot that goes into protecting the water quality here, and it's essential for a healthy thriving community to have a good water source that is clean," says Wildcat Glades Education Director Chris Pistole.

The results of Sunday's testing will be sent to the Department of Natural Resources.
