In addition to tomorrow's statewide tornado drill this Thursday, National Weather Service representatives will host a weather spotter seminar at Missouri Southern State University. Local emergency managers say March is the perfect way to highlight the importance of planning and practicing how to take shelter before severe weather strikes.
"We would encourage people to participate in both events. First of all, to exercise that plan, and honestly, if you don't have one it's time to get one. Have a kit, be prepared, be informed," said Keith Stammer, Emergency Management Director.
Local emergency managers say severe weather instances become more frequent during April and May, they add between 2 and 10 p.m. are peak times for thunderstorms and other severe weather activity.
