JOPLIN, MO.--- Absentee voting is now open for people who can't make it to the polls in April. The Jasper County Clerk's Office has ballots available for anyone that needs to vote early in the upcoming city and municipal election.

County Clerk Bonnie Earl says the 6 week absentee voting period began on Tuesday, and will end on April 1st. Earl says since Joplin is the biggest city in Jasper County and has no city council or school bond issues on the ballot, voter turnout will be impacted.

"April is normally a low turnout election anyway and with this one not having as many ballots and ballot issues, I just expect it to be lower," said Bonnie Earl, Jasper County Clerk.

The upcoming April 2nd election is also unique in that there are normally 66 different ballot issues in a spring election, but in this one there are only 46.
