JOPLIN, MO.--- More than a million pounds of trash have been saved from a landfill thanks to a new tool. The Joplin Salvation Army has a new baler machine that creates a thousand pound bale of clothing or paper products. A buyer then either recycles the items or ships it around the world.

Last year, the baler generated $300,000 in revenue to the Salvation Army. That money will be used to support housing and buy food for the needy. Organizers say there are a variety of uses for the goods.

"It can be used for housing insulation, go to orphanages in third world counties. It could be sued in all sorts of different products because it's cotton textiles," said Callie Hudson, Salvation Army.

The Salvation Army is always in need of donations. They are located at 7th and Kentucky in Joplin.
