NEOSHO, MO.---- Judy Laquidara traveled from Texas to see her family in Neosho.

"Today was so pretty we decided to come out to the park," states Judy Laquidara, Park Attendee.

She was shocked to discover someone had been shot at Morse Park, the same place where she was spending time with her young granddaughter.

"I asked my daughter in law if it was safe to come out walking by ourselves without our husbands and she said, 'yeah it's very safe' and then you hear something like that. It makes you think twice," says Laquidara.

Investigators say on Sunday a stray bullet, fired from a long distance, struck a woman on the walking trail, passing through both her legs.

"One of two things, people being careless or someone out there poaching deer or other animals in the area North and East of the park," states Chief Dave McCracken, Neosho Police Department.

The 29-year-old victim was taken to a hospital in Neosho where she was treated and released.

"There didn't appear to be a lot of damage. However, it's never good when a bullet goes through your leg," says Chief McCraken.

Neosho police officers are concerned, considering so many residents use the park for exercise and relaxation, especially younger people. As for Laquidara, she has a message for whoever fired the shots near Morse Park.

"They're just being very careless. For one thing, it's not hunting season here and just to be shooting, not sure where your bullet is going to land and there are people. There is a highway right there. It could have been kids," says Laquidara.

If you have any information about the shooting, you are asked to call the Neosho Police Department. Officers say conservation workers in Neosho have been concerned for some time that people are illegally hunting deer near the park.
