JOPLIN, MO.--- A viaduct over the 20th Street rail-lines in Joplin is leaving some bicyclists on edge. According to city staff, there were some comments and concerns about whether or not to include bike lanes in the design. City officials approved a $12 million federal highway grant tonight to go towards different street projects throughout Joplin.

The approval comes with bike lanes still included in the 20th Street overpass design. In fact, city leaders say they are in early planning stages to include more bike trails throughout Joplin within the next 5 years. Officials say the trails add a quality of life that will attract people to the city.

"So we've got significant plans that we're drawing up and are on the verge of presenting that will dramatically enhance the trail system with the City of Joplin. In my mind, there's nothing you can do better to include the quality of life within a community," says Mark Rohr, Joplin City Manager.

Officials expect to release plans to weave bike trails throughout the city in the next 2 to 4 weeks.
