JOPLIN, MO.--- Rezoning the northeast corner of 20th Street and Rex from heavy industrial to residential town homes was approved tonight. The site is where Pepsi Bottling used to be and will now be the future sight of 72 luxury apartment homes. The town houses will also be an extension of the Plaza Apartments.

"Because of the Joplin Plaza Apartments and the success that they've been in that location, our future land use map that was updated last year actually had this property listed as future high density residential. So, this actually does meet the future land use map," says Matt Wright, Planning & Community Development Specialist.

A public hearing was held this evening after a neighboring property owner protested the rezoning. When the floor opened no one spoke against the plans. Construction is set to begin on the luxury town homes this spring.
