CARTHAGE, MO.--- Jasper County commissioners take the next step toward a new home for the sheriff's department. Today, the commission opened bids for remodeling work on a Jasper County Courthouse Annex.

They are working with the sheriff to move his department into the former bank building off the Carthage square. 4 companies are bidding to serve as general contractor, and would then put out additional bids to remodel the building.

"They'll put it out for bid and if we can afford it, which we are hoping we can, then the sheriff will move," said John Bartosh, Jasper County Presiding Commissioner.

The county is currently leasing a building for the sheriff off of County Road 80 in Atlas. The Annex building would provide more space and be closer to the jail and courthouse.
