GIRARD, KS.--- The Crawford County Jail is making big changes to inmate visitations. The sheriff's office will partner up with a video visitation vendor. Between 8 to 10 monitors will be installed in certain jail cells. Inmates will then be able to video chat with approved family members any day of the week.

Right now, the jail schedules face to face visitations every other Sunday. Sheriff Dan Peak says the jail lobby and parking lots get over crowded during those days, increasing the chances for lability. He hopes video visitation will increase officer and visitor safety.

"If they have to wait for an hour for those 15 minutes, you can imagine that some people get a bit cranky, and on the flip side, the inmates themselves are anxious to visit," said Sheriff Dan Peak, Crawford County Sheriff's Office.

The jail will also install a money kiosk for inmates. Correctional staff will no longer have to deal with inmate money, all cash will be deposited in the ATM and the inmates will use a debit card for commissary.
