JOPLIN, MO.--- The Missouri Southern State University Journalism Department launches a new program with a focus on community issues. "Joplin Insider" is the name of the new 30 minute long segment that will be broadcast on the university's TV station. It's a biweekly program hosted by Lynn Onstot, the public information officer for the City of Joplin.

During each segment she will talk to community leaders about important issues affecting the city. The program is filmed and directed by students in Missouri Southern's Journalism Practicum course. Professors say it's not only a great resource for their students, but something the entire community can benefit from.

"To increase awareness of what actually happens in our community. Not just providing our students with experience, but also kind of reaching a wider demographic," said Kristen Livingston, MSSU Assistant Professor.

The pilot episode of "Joplin Insider" will air this Sunday, March 10th on KGCS at 7 p.m.
