JOPLIN, MO.--- Route 66 is getting a new tile mural in Joplin. 2 custom designs will be placed on the south wall of the Pearl Brothers Building in downtown Joplin. The first mural will be 18 feet tall and 47 feet wide. The second mural will be 9 feet tall and 25 feet wide.

The tiles will depict "Welcome To Joplin On Historic Route 66" and show the route from Chicago to Santa Monica with an emphasis on Joplin. An early Route 66 era car will also be placed in front of the mural. Designers say they're excited to finally have a Route 66 staple in Joplin.

"This is a great time for Joplin. So much has gone on in the last few years with the tornado and the recovery, and the world focus on Joplin. To be able to take that focus in such a positive limelight of historic Route 66," said Paul Whitehill, President, Images in Tile.

The mural will cost almost $63,000 and is being funded by sponsorships from local businesses.
