CARTHAGE, MO.--- Today, Carthage firefighters used an empty house near the Jasper County Jail to train on ventilating a building during a fire. The county currently owns the vacant building and one next to it, and they plan to tear them both down. The fire training officer says the extra practice will speed up the process in an emergency.

"We take every advantage of the areas we can that have been condemned or if the owners let us come in and train on it. It really gives the guys some hands on training," said David Myers, Carthage Fire Department, Training Officer.

Another crew of firefighters will be out there tomorrow for another round of training.
