MISSOURI--- State workers say technology is playing an important role in keeping roads safe and traffic flowing. The Missouri Department of Transportation is now using more than 28 hundred traffic cameras, signs, signals and sensors.
The high tech options allow workers to adapt to changing traffic patterns and pass information along to drivers. They point out that just one lane of traffic blocked for 1 minute can lead to as much as 20 minutes of traffic congestion during busy travel times.
