Crawford County Rural Water District Storm Shelter Construction

PITTSBURG, KS.--- Crawford County's Rural Water District 1 is building a new office that will double as a storm shelter. It's located next to their current building at 250th Road just north of Pittsburg.

The building will provide shelter for about 100 people if disaster were to strike. It's being funded through a bond issue and has a price tag of about $130,000.

"If you have ample time to get there, how do you put a price on a human life if you can save 100 people in that building," said Timothy Gintner, Water District Commissioner.

The building is expected to be completed in 4 months.
