JOPLIN, MO.---- Some students from College Heights Christian School in Joplin are committing this week to helping others. 180 students are divided into groups with staff supervisors. One particular group is lending a hand to Watered Gardens Gospel Rescue Mission.

They're remodeling a basement room for the shelter's clients. They will be mudding, taping, painting, building and stocking shelves for the entire week. They'll also be helping out with anything else that needs to be done. One student volunteer says it's a great way to give back to those in need in your own community.

"It's our environment, it's kind of the various people we interact with, just for good and bad, but a lot of it is just Christian duty really. It's part of our religious code to go forth and help out," said Jackson Girard, CHCS Student.

He says learning to work with various types of people will be a much needed skill to have as he gets older.
