CHEROKEE CO. -- Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt is asking parents to take a few moments to make sure dangerous chemicals are kept out of the reach of children. Schmidt says small kids could potentially mistake household cleaning products as flavored drinks and consume them. Cherokee county sheriff David Groves says along with the chemicals, parents also need to keep a close eye on medications.

"A lot of medications can look like candy to a small child, so we want to make sure those are in a safe, secure location so kids can't get ahold of them," Groves says.

A National Drug Take Back Day will be held next month for unused medications. For a complete list of drop off locations in Kansas, click here.
