New Rules Governing Natural Gas

Updated: January 7, 2009
The price of natural gas is weighing heavy on energy bills again this year. The price hike last year caused some people to lose the heat in their homes when they couldn`t pay their bills. But the public service commission is taking action to ensure residents don`t lose their heat again. The commission passed a set of energy rules. That will take effect November 18th and run through March 31st. The rules will help customers pay off old balances and not accrue additional debt. Missouri representative Gary Burton says the rules are designed to help those who lost their heat last winter. After paying this initial amount, customers will be put on a payment plan to pay off the balance. The rules also set up guidelines for disconnecting the heat in a home.
