Updated: January 7, 2009
Dr. Greg Smith`s wife speaks out about her husband`s death. Barbara Smith told KSN she was not happy about the way authorities have handled her husband`s death. In fact, she said, "It`s deplorable the way we found out about this." Mrs. Smith says she did not know that police were investigating any clues to her husband`s whereabouts or the possibility his car was found in a nearby pond, until her sister-in-law called and said she had seen it on the news late Sunday night. Mrs. Smith then went to the scene outside of Diamond, where her husband`s body was found. Upon arrival, she says the sheriff`s department would not give her any information, telling her that any information was to come from the Missouri Highway Patrol. After sometime at the scene, she says she finally received word from a spokesperson for the highway patrol who told her they had found her husband and his car submerged in the pond. KSN also spoke with the Missouri Highway Patrol who says they have a strict policy not to notify next of kin until they have a positive identification. Greg Smith`s autopsy began around three o`clock this afternoon. The results are expected to be back this evening. KSN will bring you those results when they become available.
