Updated: January 7, 2009
The location of a new sinkhole in the Picher/Cardin District of Northeast Oklahoma is getting a lot of attention. The hole was discovered over the weekend by someone working on property bordering the land. What makes this particular sinkhole particularly alarming is its location, almost one hundred yards from U.S. Highway 69. The exact depth of the sinkhole is not known at this time. But officials say historically, the hole could reach depths more than 80 feet.
