Weekend Shopping Report

The results are in on how the economy faired after what is normally the busiest shopping weekend of the year. Preliminary reports suggest there`s good and bad news. The good news, big bargain chains like Wal-Mart did well. On Friday, Wal-Mart set a record for one-day sales, raking in more than $1.25 billion dollars. The hot items included home electronics, toys and small appliances. The bad news, consumers were less willing to spend at other retailers. Analysts say department stores and specialty stores barely met their modest expectations for the weekend. Sales were reportedly strong on Friday, but dropped off Saturday and Sunday.
