After years of wear and tear, two local memorials are getting a face-lift. Missouri Governor Bob Holden has awarded both the city of Joplin and the city of Carthage more than a million dollars in grant money. The funds will be used for renovating and maintaining veterans memorials. In Joplin, Memorial Hall will receive a little more than $267,000. And the Carthage facility will receive approximately $900,000. Public Works officials say the money will be used for a new heating and air conditioning unit and replacing the roof.
