Former Commissioner Still Owes Money

Updated: January 7, 2009
The repayment of a non-invalid pay raise is still up in the air. Jasper County commissioners say a former county commissioner still owes them money. Jasper County Prosecutor Dean Dankelson says former Commissioner Ben Johnson still owes the county money. The funds are part of a pay hike in 1999 and 2000 that were later invalidated by the Missouri Supreme Court. The county wants Johnson to pay nearly $12,000 back. Dankelson is writing a letter to Johnson asking Jim to repay the money under the same terms as those agreed to by Jasper County Commissioner Anna Ruth Crampton. Johnson has not yet offered to return any of the money in question. He could not be reached for comment.
