Static Electricity Can Be Dangerous

Static electricity cannot only be an annoyance, but a danger as well. Several fires have started at service stations through out Missouri and the fires start from static electricity sparks. During cold weather, many people get back in the car while pumping gas and create static electricity when getting out. To prevent this static charge, be sure to close the door when you get out of your car, touching the metal will ground the electricity. But officials from the Missouri Department of Agriculture say the best thing is to just brave the cold.
