Tulsa Poultry Pollution Lawsuit

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
The city of Tulsa files a federal lawsuit against poultry producers and an Arkansas town over pollution of an area waterway. Officials are accusing six poultry processors and the city of Decatur of causing taste and odor problems in Tulsas drinking water. They say the industry is polluting the lakes with chicken litter applied on land. The taste and odor are not a health risk, but costly to treat. Tulsa officials say they`ve spent $4 million treating the water. The lawsuit asks for monetary damages for past and future costs of treating the water and an injunction against further pollution of the watershed.
