Newton County Budget

By: Import User
Updated: January 7, 2009
Newton County commissioners meet to approve the county budget for next year. The county budget runs primarily off sales tax revenue. Those revenues are down significantly with the drop in the economy. Commissioners say they will have to cut back in some areas to make up the difference. In recent years running the county has cost more than tax revenue brings in, meaning surplus money set aside for emergencies is dwindling. To help prevent future erosion of the surplus each department is cutting back or not expanding their current budget. But, county officials say that will not prevent basic services from being offered.
