Barry County is seeing less red as the number of bad check writers goes down. Barry County prosecuting attorney Steve Hemphill says a change in strategy is responsible for the lower numbers. The writer of the hot check has ten days to pay up or Hemphill will prosecute. The entire bad check collection system is operated without tax dollars. It`s funded by a fee collected from those who bounce the checks. Last year, the county collected more than $190,000.
