breaking news
Fire at a local lumber company sends irritating smoke into area neighborhoods. A lumber treatment plant in Joplin goes up in flames, destroying part of the plant and sending thick black smoke into the air. People living north east of the International Paper Company were told to stay indoors and keep windows closed. The plant, located near Rangeline and 32nd, caught fire late this morning when a small amount of oil ignited and then spread throughout the building. No one was injured during the blaze, but fire fighters underwent a special cleaning process as they emerged from fighting the fire. Production at the plant could be closed for as long as two weeks.
