Harkins to Remain in Jail

Updated: January 7, 2009
A technicality delays a hearing that could free a woman currently serving time for murder. Patty Harkins will remain in jail. She has served nearly eleven months for the murder of her husband former Ottawa County Sheriff Jack Harkins. A hearing today before the court could have set her free. The judge was scheduled to review her sentence and determine whether she would be required to complete her original sentence or be released. The prosecution in the case failed to receive some documents before today`s court date, forcing the delay of the hearing. In February of last year, Patty Harkins was sentenced to 12 years for the death of her husband. A new hearing date has be set for February 20th. Harkins pled no contest to the stabbing death of her husband under a blind plea agreement with the judge in the case.
