Senator Bond Working for Safer Roads

A US senator does his part to keep southwest Missouri motorists traveling of safer roadways. Senior US Senator Kit Bond met with engineers from MoDOT and McDonald County residents to discuss new funding for improvements to Highway 71. Today`s announcement of $6 million in funding is good news for residents of the county and anyone, for that matter, who has endured the sometimes treacherous drive along south Highway 71. During that afternoon meeting along the new stretch of Highways 71 and 76, Senator Bond referred to the old highway as ‘blood alley and he says it is imperative to the safety of motorists and the growth of southwest Missouri that this new stretch of expressway connecting Pineville to the Arkansas state line near Bella Vista. Early reports indicated a reduction in road thickness along the new expressway from 14 inches to 7 inches. And speaking to Kent Boyd today, he says that is a misunderstanding by MoDOT and the road will be 12 inches in thickness, which is standard for new roads of this type. So road quality is a top priority during this project.
