Updated: January 7, 2009
The next time you throw a piece of trash out of your car, you could wind up in jail. People littering and dumping trash is becoming an increasing problem on Schifferdecker Road, near Zora in Jasper County. People are driving back into the woods and dumping off old couches, tires and other types of trash. But the act is against the law, and if caught, you could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to a thousand dollars. Captain Tony Coleman - Jasper Co. Sheriff`s Dept. "It`s an eyesore. The entire area of course. With this much debris and things laying around. It just makes you think what`s going through people`s mind to just come out here on the side of the road and dump things off." The Jasper County Sheriff`s Department is asking for your help. If you see anyone dumping their trash, contact the department at 624-1601 or 358-8177.
