Each time a high profile case allegedly involving domestic abuse happens, its a reminder the problem still exists in our community. Louise Secker of Lafayette House in Joplin says sometimes it can convince a woman to ask for help before something tragic happens. Women and their children seeking shelter from domestic abuse can call the Lafayette House in Southwest Missouri 24 hours a day at 417-782-1772. Safehouse provides shelter in Southeast Kansas. In the Crawford county area call 1-800-794-9148, in the Montgomery County area its 1-888-320-7218. Women in Northeast Oklahoma can call the Crisis Center at 1-800-400-0883 or 1-918-542-1001.
